A few things about me:
I like to walk but I never walk enough. I think this hike is my remedy to that
situation.
I like to read and write but never do enough of either.
I just turned 36, I think.
I’m not very good at keeping track of time, days, years, etc. My body operates on a 10 day week with days
that are really 30 hours long. That’s
why I can’t remember how old I am and why I think that I can get to so much more
in a day than I really can. Hence the
never doing enough of the things I want.
I do knit a lot right now and love it. I've learned to spin my own yarn and am in
the process of fixing my spinning wheel.
Both of those crafts will have a place on my hike but the spinning wheel
will have to stay at home. I sew and am making
all of our gear for the hike, almost all.
We might buy a few items of clothing.
While I like spending time outdoors, I have never hiked more
than a day at a time in my life. By that
I mean that I’d go camping with family or friends before I was married and
later with Dave, we’d go for a hike then come back to camp for sleep. I never had to carry more than water and a
pocket full of snacks. Sleeping out in
the world, outside of a campground, I
had never experienced. Hiking for days
at a time with everything I would need to survive weather, potential dangers,
boredom, hunger… nope, never done that.
On our bicycle trip some of these unknowns I experienced to
a degree and am far more prepared to hike now than ever before. They weren't hard skills to build. After bicycling for 5 months with bare
minimums I can survive quite well with very little and realize the value of
taking only what’s needed to be comfortable.
Okay, except for some knitting. That’s my luxury item.
